Most major volcanic eruptions between 2000 and 2017 have been recorded in Indonesia (19), followed by the Philippines (11) and Ecuador (9). The only European countries being hit by a volcanic eruption in that period are Italy and Iceland.
Indonesia is also the country mourning the most deaths through volcanoes (367), followed by the Democratic Republic of Congo (200) and Japan (63).
