Of the over 2,500 tweets that Joe Biden has tweeted over the presidential account since he became president, slightly less than half (1,213) made references to other countries by the end of 2023. The United States of America were excluded from this analysis, so that the USA disappear from this map.
The cartogram provides a picture of which countries appear to have be most prominent in Joe Biden’s foreign policy in that period, as his presidential account appeared overall more carefully curated than that of his predecessor. By the end of 2023, a total of 85 countries were mentioned at least once.
The top countries in his tweets from 2021 to 2023 were:

Ukraine, 19 per cent (228 tweets)
Russia, 17 per cent (204 tweets)
North Korea, 6 per cent (78 tweets)
Mexico, 6 per cent (74 tweets)
Japan, 4 per cent (49 tweets)
South Korea, 4 per cent (49 tweets)

Of the over 50,000 tweets that Donald Trump has tweeted since he joined the social network Twitter, almost 23,000 were tweeted since he was elected president in November 2016. The cartogram shows a context analysis of all tweets (excluding retweets) made between his election in November 2016 and the November 2020 election when he lost his office. Tweets made in the transition period since November 2020 until the suspension of his account in January did not contain any significant mentions of foreign countries but were almost exclusively related to domestic matters. The United States of America were excluded from this analysis, so that the USA disappear from this map. Puerto Rico as an unincorporated territory of the US was included in the analysis, as it was treated like a foreign country in the Tweets.
The cartogram provides a picture of which countries appear to have be most prominent in Donald Trump’s foreign policy in that period, since the social media network was one of the main means of communication during his presidency and was often and widely used and cited in the international media. In his presidency, 2,252 individual references to other countries have been made until 3 November 2020, with a total of 92 countries having been mentioned at least once.
The top countries in his tweets were:

China, 19 per cent (436 tweets)
Russia, 16 per cent (367 tweets)
North Korea, 8 per cent (182 tweets)
Mexico, 7 per cent (156 tweets)
Ukraine 4 per cent (94 tweets)
