Barley is to beer as grapes are to wine

The biggest producer of beer (from barley) is China with almost 50 million tons in 2014, followed by the USA (22 million tons), Brazil (14 million tons), Germany (8.7 million tons) and Mexico (8.5 million tons). United Kingdom, Poland, Spain, South Africa and Japan complete the top 10. Traditional beer countries like Czech Republic or Belgium are only on 19th and 20th place.
Barley is the fourth most important cereal crop in the world, grown in more than 100 countries and used for animal feed, human food and the production of alcohol. According to the FAO, Barley is produced in more than 100 countries.
Most of the world’s barley is produced in Russia, followed by Germany, France and Ukraine. Australia, Canada, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States of America complete the top 10.
