An earthquake is the movement of the ground, resulting from pressure between tectonic plates. Some places experience many earthquakes because they are located near to an active plate boundary.
The highest economical damages (in US$) where accumulated in Japan during the earthquake and the following tsunami in 2011, which destroyed the nuclear power plant in Fukushima. Japan is followed by Turkey (2023), Chile (2010), New Zealand (2011) and Italy (2009).
