Nepali is a language of Nepal. Roughly 51% of the population there speak it as a first language.
Nepali is spoken by nearly 20 million people. It was the language of the Khasa kingdom in what is now Nepal during the 13th and 14th centuries. There are also a large number of speakers in India, mostly in the state of Sikkim, and also in the Darjeeling district in the state of West Bengal. There are a considerable number of speakers in Bhutan, and small emigrant populations in the United States and the United Kingdom.
