There is only one religion, though there are a hundred versions of it.
George Bernard Shaw, Plays Pleasant and Unpleasant, Vol. II, preface (1898)
Taoic (or East Asian) religions focus on the East Asian concept of Tao. For the purposes of this map, we include Confusionism, Shintoism, Taoism and Chinese Universism. (Information source: Wikipedia)
Tao can be roughly translated into English as ‘path’, or ‘the way’. It ‘refers to a power which envelops, surrounds and flows through all things, living and non-living.’ The founder of Taoism is believed by many to be Lao-Tse (604-531 BCE), a contemporary of Confucius. Taoism is centred on Taiwan, with large populations also in Hong Kong and China. (Source)
