The limits of my language mean the limits of my world. (Die Grenzen meiner Sprache bedeuten die Grenzen meiner Welt.)
Albanian is spoken as a first language by nearly 6 million people in at least 17 territories. There are two main dialects; Gheg and Tosk. In Albania, the Shkumbin river is roughly the dividing line, with Gheg spoken to the north of it and Tosk to the south.
Albanian is also spoken by significant numbers in Serbia & Montenegro, Macedonia, Greece, Switzerland, Italy and the United States, and by smaller numbers in several other European countries.
