These things are just plain annoying. After all the trouble you go to, you get about as much actual “food” out of eating an artichoke as you would from licking 30 or 40 postage stamps. Have the shrimp cocktail instead.

Artichokes are most popular in Southern Europe, Northern Africa and South America. Most of the world’s almost 1.5 million tons of artichokes are harvested in Europe, followed by Africa and South America. Italy is holding first place in artichoke harvesting with more than 20% of the world’s harvest, followed by Egypt, Spain and Peru.
