Barley is the fourth most important cereal crop in the world, grown in more than 100 countries and used for animal feed, human food and the production of alcohol. According to the FAO, Barley is produced in more than 100 countries. Most of the world’s barley is produced in Russia, followed by Germany, France and Ukraine. Australia, Canada, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States of America complete the top 10.
Between 2000 and 2016 the biggest increase of barley production was recorded in Russia, followed by Argentina, Ukraine and Australia. The biggest decline in this period was recorded in Canada, followed by Spain, the USA and Turkey. All of these countries still belong to the top producers of barley.
