I have reached the conviction that the abolition of the death penalty is desirable. Reasons: 1) Irreparability in the event of an error of justice, 2) Detrimental moral influence of the execution procedure on those who, whether directly or indirectly, have to do with the procedure.
Amnesty International recorded that 2,659 people were sentenced to death in 54 countries in 2020. China is leading (with more than 1000 estimated sentences), followed by Yemen (269), Egypt (264), Zambia (119) and Indonesia (117).
When it comes to executions, China is again leading the list (with more than 1000 estimated sentences), followed by Iran (246), Egypt (107), North Korea (est. 50) and Iraq (45). In total 1530 people were executed in 18 countries.
in 2020 30,792 people in 68 countries were living with a death sentence, the biggest number in Iraq (7,900), followed by Pakistan (4,000), Nigeria (2,700) and USA (2,485).
