Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Spain and and the Philippines complete the top 10. Overall eggplants are planted in almost 100 countries world wide. Eggplant – or Aubergine – is a species of the nightshade plant family and most popular in Asian, North African and Southern European cuisine.
