The maps show each country resized according to the number of athletes participating from each country. 32 Olympic Athletes from Belarus and Russia are not shown as they compete as Individual Neutral Athletes. Also not shown are the origins of 37 athletes who compete as the Refugee Olympic Team. Olympic games are still an event that is largely influenced by wealth of participating nations. As the following cartogram of the number of participants shows, the most affluent countries are often those that send most athletes to the games.
