The United States topped the medal table at the 2024 Paris Olympics, securing 40 gold medals, just edging past China, who also won 40 golds, due to a higher number of silver medals (44 to 27). Both countries also won the most medals overall with a total of 126 medals for the USA and 91 for China. Japan finished third with 20 golds (but only 45 total medals, less than 7th ranked United Kingdom with 65 medals in total), while Australia and host nation France followed in fourth and fifth with 18 and 16 golds respectively (53 and 64 medals in total).
