Sugar beets are accounting for about a third of the global sugar production. They grow best in temperate zone and are a winter crop (harvested from September to March).
The top producer of sugar beets is Russia with 51,366,830 tons, followed by France (33,794,906 tons), USA (33,457,880 tons) Germany (25,497,200 tons) Turkey (19,465,452 tons) and Ukraine (14,011,450 tons).
