I began to paint again, even though I could barely hold the brush, but knowing exactly what I wanted to paint, I began three more large canvases… of large wheat fields under cloudy skies, and it did not take a great deal to express sadness and loneliness… I believe these paintings say what words cannot.
According to the FAO: “wheat is grown on more land area than any other commercial crop and continues to be the most important food grain source for humans.”
The biggest producer of wheat in 2016 was China with more than 130 million tons harvested, followed by India, Russia, the USA and Canada. France, Ukraine, Pakistan Germany and Australia complete the top 10. Overall wheat is harvested in more than 120 countries and on all continents.
The biggest increase in wheat harvesting between 2000 and 2016 happened in Russia, followed by China and India. The biggest decline in harvest in that period happened in France and the United Kingdom.
