The limits of my language mean the limits of my world. (Die Grenzen meiner Sprache bedeuten die Grenzen meiner Welt.)
Lao is the official language of Laos, and spoken there by roughly 3 million people. Roughly 55% of the population there speak it as a first language. It is also spoken by around 15 million people in the Isan (meaning northeast) area of Thailand, where it is called the Isan language. There are also a good number of speakers in the United States, and fewer in Cambodia, Canada and the United Kingdom.
