You can eat it. You can drink it. You can raise livestock with it, plant it to fertilise land, or process it to make varnishes, soaps, inks – even explosives. Eat processed food and you’ll likely ingest it without even knowing.
By far most of the soybeans produced in the US are exported to China (> 12 billion tons), followed by Mexico, Japan, Indonesia and the Netherlands. Germany, Thailand, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Egypt complete the top 10. Overall the USA export into more than 70 countries worldwide.
The USA also have the biggest soybean production, followed by Brazil, Argentina and India. China, Egypt, Paraguay, Canada, Ukraine and Bolivia complete the top 10.
The biggest increase in soybean production between 2000 and 2016 happened in Brazil, followed by USA and Argentina. The biggest decline in that period happened in China, followed by Thailand and Zimbabwe.
