Avocado Exports

Map No.

Mexico as the largest exporter is exporting more than double the quantity than the two next biggest combined. The Netherlands are working as an Import-Export Hub, while they appear on this map as the second biggest exporter, they are also the second biggest (and a net-) importer and don’t produce the avocados there.

While Avocados are a commodity in the Western world, it is an important part of the traditional diet in the producing countries.

Kenya, the world’s eight largest producer of avocados, had banned the export of the fruit temporarily beginning of 2018 due to a severe shortage at home.

Data sources
This map uses data by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) (last accessed March 2018). We aim to map as complete data as possible and therefore estimate data for missing values. In some cases, missing data for very small territories is not used in the cartogram and that area is therefore omitted in the map.

Further notes on the data, as well as all modifications to the original data source are noted in our data sheets. Data for this map will soon be available as a download.
